We are pleased to offer a free download series of Official Bootlegs, live shows ranging from a raucous early performance at the Masque to a swaggering reunion at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Madame Wong's; from rocking a sold out crowd supporting the Jim Carroll Band at the Hollywood Palace, to an intimate acoustic show at the Anti-Club. These are high quality soundboard recordings with a few exceptions made for historically interesting events. They include unreleased songs and cover versions, as well as songs from Blow-Up studio releases.

There's The Door
Recorded October 30, 1987 at Madame Wong's West with The Pop. The Blow-Up Reunion at Madame Wong's 10th Anniversary Celebration. Teenage News Gotta Get Away Kicking Up a Fuss Sweet Jane Hanging Out at the 7-Eleven Local Hero (It Isn't) 1965 Downtown Jody Worth, Bruce Nicholson, Pat DiPuccio, Christian Super, David Harrington & Arthur Arroyo |
The "classic" early lineup - Bruce Nicholson, Christian Super, Patrick DiPuccio, David Harrington, the inimitable Arthur Arroyo and Some Singer. Thanks to Dave Swanson of the Pop for loaning Pat his guitar rig. Blow-Up plays Sweet Jane! at the insistence of Arthur, who says he won't come in for the gig otherwise, and it sounds more Sonic Youth than Mott the Hoople. The Singer tells the crowd "we were Blow-Up." Pat and Bruce bring the noise. Arthur adds kickass to his finesse. Christian tastefully employs his vastly improved arsenal of gear to the early material. Tommy Wright does the sound big. And... That's All Folks. - JW
Cool Like Dino
Recorded May 25, 1984 at the "World Famous" Hollywood Palace. With Jim Carroll. For Jim Carroll. High Chaparral Hanging Out at the 7-Eleven Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White Easy Knowledge There's a War Going On Local Hero Kicking Up a Fuss We're So Cool It's a Crime Downtown Jody Worth, Pat DiPuccio, Christian Super, Paul Hilton, Ed Cirino & Brian Floyd |
This gig was a true highlight. Concurrent with the release of the 'Easy Knowledge' album ("available with bonus tracks on CD Baby and iTunes "), which was lauded possibly even beyond its Worth by great writers like Mikal Gilmore, and rated A- by "Dean of Rock Critics" Robert Christgau. A very appreciative crowd of 1500 at the same historic venue Dean Martin dissed the Stones at when filming his great TV show back in the 60's. Opening for the estimable Jim Carroll and hanging out chatting cultural minutia with his then guitarist Lenny Kaye, who has just now made a very cool record with my friend Wendy James. - JW
Unplugged
Recorded December 9, 1985 at the Anti-Club. With Peter Case. Tell It to the Judge Souvenir Easy Knowledge You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory Reckless Hearts We're So Cool * What Goes On * * Recorded November 4, 1985 at Kerckhoff Coffee House, UCLA Jody Worth, Pat DiPuccio & Christian Super |
I don't know, perhaps the least "essential" of the series, if any could be called "essential." It was interesting to play that run of acoustic gigs though. Is the cute one in the middle of the cover photo the young Ryan Adams? I can't see if his T-Shirt has been properly styled with either Black Flag or the Replacements. - JW
Scandalized
Recorded March 5, 1983 at the Roxy Theatre. With Patty Smyth & Scandal Watching Watching You Beat Me to the Punch Souvenir Local Hero Kicking Up a Fuss Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White We're So Cool It's a Crime Downtown Jody Worth, Pat DiPuccio, Christian Super, Greg Oakland, Kenny Ray & Steve Polto |
Looking at the back cover, I still kind of like that terry cloth top I'm wearing with the animal draped over it. Patrick DiPuccio looks slightly unhinged, playing F#. His guess is we're playing You Beat Me to the Punch. The Singer's dramatic head turn suggests Local Hero to me but with his limited palette of moves, Pat could be right. Greg Oakland is keeping it together. Can't see on the far side stage left if in the Rising Sun T-shirt that's Benji King (RIP), who played keyboards for Scandal, or our own Christian Super, since they decided to both show up in the same outfit and hair. They had Thommy Price on drums, which was pretty New York, as was the fact that the their singer was soon to have a child with the esteemed Richard Hell and later marry McEnroe. We got a better write-up than they did in the LA Times but they had a video on MTV. - JW

Flame 'In The Masque
Recorded January 14, 1978 at the original Masque. With the Nerves, Plugz & Fabulons. For Tiny and Larry Lazar Something Else Watching Watching Girl Trouble Hanging Out at the 7-Eleven (Original Version) Teenage News Little Bit of Love Get Off My Cloud Mr. Nobody (Bruce: Lead Vocal) Socialite Sleepwalking We're So Cool Personality Crisis Jody Worth, Bruce Nicholson, Christian Super & David West. |
Early, dirty, teenage. The same night the Sex Pistols broke up playing S.F. On a great weekend bill with the Nerves Peter David Case, the Plugz (later Cruzados and Tito and Tarantula) and the Fabulons (Suburban Lawns). Lech Kowalski's crew filming us backstage for DOA. Larry Lazar subbing for Brendan as MC. Tommy and KK from the Screamers thinking it was cool we had no bass player but only because ours couldn't make it. And we wouldn't cut our hair. - JW
Idol on the Strip
Recorded November 13, 1982 (Late Show). With Billy Idol. You Beat Me to the Punch (Early Show) Beat the Devil Souvenir Local Hero Kicking Up a Fuss We're So Cool It's a Crime Jody Worth, PatDiPuccio, Christian Super, Greg Oakland, Kenny Ray & Steve Polto |
The "Idol" being Billy who we were supporting on this show. The cover was not my idea. - JW
Radio Free Berkeley
Recorded August 16, 1978 at Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco. With Dred Scott. Broadcast live on KALX-FM Berkeley. Hanging Out at the 7-Eleven Something Else Mercy Mercy Girl Trouble (It Isn't) 1965 Too Bad Watching Watching Teenage News Sleepwalking Dirk Dirksen Speaks Local Hero Jody Worth, Bruce Nicholson, Pat DiPuccio, Christian Super, Matt Lee & David West |
First road trip. Dirk Dirksen Presents. Sartorial misadventures. Patrick DiPuccio's second gig. KALX live broadcast. Bruce passes out in his soup at O'Doul's. Awful motel room with "magic fingers." David Maher from the Richard Cole school of road managing. Second night cancelled in favor of Sun Ra. Seems reasonable. They pay us off and make a return booking. "Once More With Feeling..." - JW
Jackie Gross Says
Recorded August 24, 1985 at Club Lingerie. With Zeitgeist. For Brendan Mullen. Tell It to the Judge Gotta Get Away Hanging Out at the 7-Eleven There's a War Going On Easy Knowledge Matter of Fact We're So Cool You're So Dangerous Local Hero Jody Worth, PatDiPuccio, Christian Super, Spyder Mittleman, Paul Hilton & Ed Cirino |
A good sounding tape from a great bill put together by the much-missed Brendan Mullen with Zeitgiest (aka the Reivers). And per the title, the first Blow-Up gig to feature the late, beloved Spyder Mittleman (aka Jackie Gross). Kateylou XOXO. As I recall, a rowdy affair. - JW

Joan Jett vs. X
Recorded April 3, 1979 at the Whisky A-Go-Go. With Levi & the Rockats. For Leee Black Childers. (It Isn't) 1965 Something Else Mercy Mercy Tell It to the Judge Armed Robbery Teenage News Local Hero Watching Watching It's a Crime Hanging Out at the 7-Eleven You're the One That I Want Downtown New Orleans Jody Worth, Bruce Nicholson, Pat DiPuccio, Christian Super, David Harrington & Arthur Arroyo |
A packed house. Sharing the bill with Levi and the Rockats, a good band managed by the late, wonderful Lee Black Childers. During the encore, a selection with which Exene and Billy Zoom took loud exception from the crowd in front of the stage, Joan Jett came flying down the stairs from the VIP section to defend our honor, yelling "these f*#^ers are great" all up in their grills. It was pretty entertaining to watch from my vantage onstage. Ironically, our then manager Ron DeBlasio wound up handling X for over 30 years. For aficionados of the first, two-guitar era of Blow-Up, this one features Bruce Nicholson alongside Patrick DiPuccio. - JW
August Moon
Recorded August 7, 1986 at the Roxy Theatre. With Screaming Blue Messiahs. Tell it to the Judge You're So Dangerous Reckless Hearts There's A War Going On Easy Knowledge We're So Cool Central Park 'n West Jody Worth, Pat DiPuccio, Christian Super, Spyder Mittleman, Greg Oakland & Robert Williams |
Opening for the Clash-influenced (natch) West London trio Screaming Blue Messiahs, featuring the fiery Ed Carter. Our own Ed Cirino did his shoulder in humping equipment at his Al's Bar sound gig and had to relinquish his post. In his stead came Florida's protean Bob Billy, ex-Tremblers (with Peter Noone) and ex-Pop, who fit like a glove (unless Mark Fuhrman is involved). This one was filmed by "Video Bob." Check out YouTube and dig my elegant pas de deux with Spyder during the denouement of "We're So Cool." - JW
